Cavani: "At World Cups, matches are more strategic and each point is more important"
Edinson Cavani will play in his fourth World Cup in Qatar this winter. The Valencia CF striker spoke about this and other matters in conversation with VCF MEDIA.
The keys to a World Cup
“At a World Cup all of the games are tough. In football, all matches are difficult and even more so nowadays. The group is going to be difficult, but we shall find out the moment the game begins and the matchdays begin to go by."
Vital points
“Beyond the big stars that each side may have in the World Cup, football is often quite strategic, because they are groups and each point is more important. The games are much more cautious. It is not like a domestic season, where you have many games. Beyond the individual qualities of each team, the fact that it is a World Cup makes it difficult in itself."
Uruguay's chances
“We are aware that we have a good side, with players who are very important for their clubs. The national team has most of its players competing and that is something important when facing a competition. We are not confident, but we are sure that we will give our best to be able to have a great World Cup."
A fourth World Cup
"It's my fourth World Cup. It's always nice to play in a competition like this at international level. We have had the blessing and the privilege of having played in a semifinal against the Netherlands, where it was close and Uruguay competed very well. We will again try for that success that is sought at international level and we will give our best. We will see what happens."
Maximum effort
“Giving one's all has to be a fundamental objective of every footballer. In football -and in life- things either go well or don't, but trying and giving everything is the only thing that leaves you with a clear conscience that you did all that you could. We will do our best and then we will see what we can achieve."
Valencianistas at the World Cup
“Sometimes you have to play World Cup games against teammates from your club side. We'll see what happens and hopefully we can cross paths and meet one of them along the way."
